About this deal

The emphasis here is on storytelling, not just in Logan’s approach to her material but through an intricate exploration of roles on offer to women like Lux accused of witchcraft and devoid of social or economic clout - the parts she’s forced to play, and who gets to tell her story. As they move quickly and quietly in a never-ending bone-achingly dark and cold forest Lux is convinced that her saviour whose face is hiding from the world is a North witch with tremendous power. In this witch story unlike any other, Lux and Else join forces to take their revenge on a powerful man. For Lux and Else trail the weighty plumes of traumatic pasts, which Logan skilfully offers us in passages of backstory that sing, screech and skip through the novel in the way records are marked by jagged scratches. The littlest prick and all those stories will simply explode out, shrieking like fat in a fire, and anyone nearby can hear it all.

It will definitely go down as one of my top reads of the year, and possibly one of my all-time favourites too.

From the past perspective of lux I found the writing style of no capital letters or full stops really difficult to get through and lost the flow of the book.

It’s also about ghosts, grief, poisons and nature, motherhood, love in all its different forms and learning to trust in life again. A brilliant stand-alone story to read on cold, wintery nights with the wind howling and the rain pouring outside. Wordsmith extraordinaire Kirsty Logan has written what is possibly her best novel yet in a tale that feels as old as the hills but sparkles with formal inventiveness. She needs her help to seek revenge against the man who wronged her, and together they pursue him north.the stream of consciousness parts felt super random and were incredibly hard to read so i had to skip them completely.

Honestly, what I wouldn't give for a sliver, a morsel, a grain of sand in the oyster of this woman's writing-capability. It was equal parts haunting, whimsical and lyrical prose as it was dark, sensual and full of feminine rage. In rich and immersive prose Kirsty Logan conjures a world of violence and beauty in which women grasp at power through witchcraft and poisons, through sexuality and childbearing, through performance and pretence, and most of all through throwing other women to the wolves. Its pacing, its structure and its internally consistent motifs (Earthliness, light vs dark and the culmination of events at an equinox, the different “roles” a woman plays e. With her signature style, intricately woven storylines and simply stunning prose, Kirsty Logan did it again.Die Zwischenparts mit Lux' und Elses Geschichte waren teils mühsam, aber am Ende kam alles rund zusammen.

Having lost not just her mother, but her home and roots to accusations of witchcraft, Lux sets of on a journey into the woods. Near the beginning of Kirsty Logan’s fine new novel, a travelling theatre company stages a nocturnal performance on a frozen lake. From the snowy winter woods to the bright midnight sun; from the horrors of plague to the relief of healing; from lost and powerless to finding your path, Now She is Witch questions the oppositions that shadow our lives. The book also has good dynamics; there are no boring pages; even though the author focused more on the development of the main character, which is one of the reasons why this book is so good. I really enjoyed this creeping, sinister tale of witchcraft, such a hugely satisfying read, a kind of fantasy history, full of complex, powerful, women. It’s a moment of grace and vindication, one that Logan lets the long-suffering Lux experience utterly, triumphantly alone. It’s the perfect image – life atop icy precarity; festive warmth upon unforgiving cold – to set the stage for a tale whose protagonist will be confronted by many perilous contrasts. It was either no full stops, lots of amphersands and inconsistent capitalisation or a sort of dreamlike prose which kept me at arms length. Not just as a person who is always trying to heal and learn from everything around her, but as an artist.
