About this deal

I also loved how open and honest she was with the harder side of football, and the harder side of stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers, a Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or. First Sentence chapter 6: „I probably should have realised that I was gay a little bit sooner than I did. I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England’s triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. It’s a brave move to tell your own story in your own words, and to be so human and genuine in doing so.She was also named Player of the Tournament and has since won England Women's Player of the Year and been nominated for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Féminin and the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022. It was emotionally intense and draining at times, the off-the-pitch socialising and finding her place and being away from home, and she wanted to give up more than once.

This book gave us an insight into Beth as a person and the struggles and hurdles she went through to get to where she is today. I so appreciate Beth's vulnerability and honesty sharing her struggles and I think they will help a lot of people. Beth Mead is one of the world’s most talented footballers – Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d’Or. I also appreciate the effort Beth puts towards women’s football, and I love that her passion is so obvious and strong.i started reading this book with the view of “oh i like beth mead, let’s read this” but as i got further into the book, i realised just how much i related to beth, from her mental journey, to the locations (eg southampton, whitby, and st albans). She was the top goalscorer in the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, which saw England crowned champions - their first international trophy since the 1966 Men's FIFA World Cup. The England team continues to work tirelessly to ensure that girls and women in sport receive equal recognition and treatment, whatever level they are playing at. After reading this book, I realize I still have so much more to learn, and especially in England, there is still so much more work to be done to grow the women’s game.

The book starts with a dark time in Beth's life, then goes back to her childhood, her family, and of course, her start in football till the current day.A very inspiring story that journals Beth Mead's football career from the start all the way up until the infamous Euros win. This is one of the reasons Beth had for writing this book to shine a light on and hopefully inspire the next generation of women/Lioness. I will admit I am not a football fan (male or female teams), but living and growing up in London, it is impossible to do or not take notice when England is playing. But long before this, Beth was just an ordinary kid from Hinderwell, North Yorkshire who wanted to play football.

Beth reminds us that despite the fact that women’s football has come a long way, especially since the Euros, it is still massively underfunded and lacking in resources compared to the men. I loved when Beth told Vivianne Miedema that they’d both been nominated for a Ballon d'Or and Viv “stared impassively” and said “Yes, it’s my fifth time. Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers - Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or. If, like me, you followed last summer's European Championships, you would have shared in the euphoria and pride at our Lionesses winning the trophy after a hard-fought final versus Germany. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger, from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman.

Motivational, touching, and very grounded in humanity, it's a great read that's left me excited to see what Beth does next in her football career.
