About this deal

Perhaps the one flaw of the book is that it is difficult to see how anyone could fail to love this little fellow. Gobbolino este un pisoi de vrăjitoare, ceea ce îl face special, simpatic, cu trăsături neobișnuite și cu ceva arsenal de vrăji minore. It never occurs to him to strike out on his own, rather than letting circumstances just carry him along. Persoana care te iubește cu adevărat este cea care te acceptă așa cum ești, și nu ,,oricum ești", de parcă ți-ar face o favoare și ar fi un efort.

Being so kind-hearted and not keen to perform spells and magic tricks, he gets abandoned by his mistress witch and sets off on a series of adventures to find his fortune elsewhere. While his sister Sootica learns how to ride a broomstick and turn mice into toads, Gobbolino sets out to find a family to care for him and a home of his own. A great deal of the dramatic tension of the book filters through "unfairness" which particularly resonates in a 7 year old's heart and perhaps as second-borns we could both relate to the idea of being the one who can't conform to the dominant family paradigm.

Finally accepting his magic, Gobbolino becomes the pedlar-woman's assistant, but his good heart and unwillingness to cause pain mean he fails at every task he is set. Coming to it at the age I am now, I found it repetitive and rather exasperating--the cat does nothing but cry all the time. A perfect story for A Puffin Book with charming black and white illustrations by the author, Ursula Moray Williams. It has been published with new illustrations more than once and a 70th anniversary edition of the self-illustrated version was published in the Puffin Modern Classics series.

I also think that the story missed a chance to give the message that you can be who you are, instead the moral seems to be change and be accepted, which seems a little sad to me. He doesn't look the part of a witch's cat either, he is dark tabby rather than black, he has one white paw and blue eyes so he gets abandoned by the witch after she can't find another witch to take him on, and Gobbolino is alone in the world. I bought this book so that I could read it to my children, and hope that they would love it as much as I did as a child. Acea persoană îți va da lăptic încălzit, dacă ești ca Gobbolino, sau te va asculta mereu când ai nevoie, dacă ai doar două labe.Although this book follows the same basic storyline as Williams's previous work, Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse, the tale of Gobbolino is more emotionally involving. De aceea m-a dezamăgit finalul, dar per total e o poveste tare drăgălașă, potrivită atât pentru copii, cât și pentru adulți.

This makes it an ideal choice for a teacher who wanted to introduce a longer story to a young audience. Una however loved it and summed up the plot to Martin "It's about a cat and he just wants to be a kitchen cat but it isn't fair because nobody understands him. Instead, he longs to be an ordinary kitchen cat that spends his time sitting by the fire and catching mice for his mistress.Gobbolino tries to adjust to his life in the cave but fails to complete a single task set by his mistress. I realise that the repetition of whole sentences reflects the style of old fairy tales, but it didn't make it any more interesting to read. First published in the 1940s, the story of Gobbolino the witch's cat with one white paw and bright blue eyes, has been delighting generations of young readers. C. Westcott, and has been very popular in primary school music classes in Australia and New Zealand since appearing as song 9 on page 12 of the 1978 edition of Sing, [3] a music curriculum programme of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that included a radio programme, cassettes (now CDs) and an annual compilation of songs.

It is beautifully written, and I love it now as an adult as much as I did 30 years ago when I read it the first time. In 1984 Puffin published The Further Adventures of Gobbolino and the Little Wooden Horse, a joint sequel to Gobbolino and to Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse (1938).She wrote and illustrated over sixty books for children with the most notable being Gobbolino the Witch's Cat and The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse. Although it is quite a long book for a younger audience, each chapter is a like a mini story so children could dip in and out of it because they would not have to remember what happened before to understand the entire story. It's set in a sort of fairy tale land, and Gobbolino can talk to people and do the dishes and so forth, so it's kind of irrelevant that he's even a cat. The pedlar-woman leaves him in the care of his sister, Sootica, and her mistress, but once again he is unable to complete his tasks. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged.
