About this deal

It was published in 1995, co-illustrated by Sue Heap and Nick Sharratt, and it won both the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize (ages 9–11 years and overall) and the Red House Children's Book Award.

Despite their father's early hesitation to the idea, he encourages Garnet to go ahead with the school after it is revealed that she won the scholarship. It still had some appeal, mostly because it tells about twins and some of the thinks did apply very well to me and my sister as well. The storyline was, as I said, predictable, but I am not a pre-teen and so in that context the predictability doesn’t matter. Having failed the audition ruby decides that she wants to go to boarding school because of the stage and velvet curtains, but Garnet is not so keen.

Ruby dreams of being an actress one day and sees an add in a paper for twins to take part in a commercial held in london, however Garnet dosent want to persue a career in showbiz, she prefers to studying. This is the third Jacqueline Wilson book I have now read in my challenge and I will admit they are starting to become a guilty pleasure of mine.

Regarded by many as being one of her better written titles, it's still popular nearly twenty years after it was first published. As I have read this book 11 times I could probaly tell you a lot about it so dont even hesitate reading this brilliant book it amazing in the way it is told and how emotianally it is told which in the end always turns out to be funny. The twins Ruby and Garnet hate her the first time she sees her, which is when their dad brings her home to have tea, out off the blue and their Nan tried her best to be nice to Rose. As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her! One of Jacqueline’s most successful and enduring creations has been the famous Tracy Beaker, who first appeared in 1991 in The Story of Tracy Beaker. From the beginning we learn that he spends his time filling the entire house with books, knowing full well that his mother-in-law has arthritis and finds it hard to get around.
